SUNDAY, FEB. 9

11 a.m. - 5 p.m. each day

LEWIS STUDIO

510A Lewis Rd.
Santa Rosa, CA

We welcome back Judith Hanson Lasater for a three-day workshop called The Pelvis is Everything. This workshop will be held at the Lewis Road studio from Friday, Feb. 7 - Sunday, Feb. 9. Each day will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a 1-hour break for lunch.

About the course:
The pelvis is at the center of the body. It is also at the center of our movements, on and off the mat. Usually, however, asana is taught with more of a focus on the spinal column or peripheral joints and structures.

But when we learn to move from the pelvis, everything changes.

In this course we will focus on the pelvis, its anatomy, and on its energetic importance to our lives through lecture and practice.

We will study the part the pelvis plays in creating yoga poses, including standing poses, backbends, forward bends, twists and inversions. We will question with an open mind and heart some of the assumptions we make about the pelvis, and how we as teachers can open to a new way of seeing the pelvis and its potential in asana.

We will explore the dance called “walking”, and the understanding that Eastern and Western cultures teach people to walk differently.

We will also explore what physical and emotional consequences are
associated with the way we walk. Included will be a discussion of the pelvic floor as well.

The first session of each day will focus on Active practice and the second session on Quiet asana practice like Restorative poses and pranayama.

These practices take on new depth when done with an awareness of the importance of the pelvis and its position.
